Two Vintage F. Grayson Sayre Oil Paintings

Description and Item Information
Up for sale are these two vintage, framed oil on board paintings by Fred Grayson Sayre. Please excuse the glare in the photos. The first painting measures approximately 9 9/16 inches by 7 5/8 inches (the visible art area, as framed, is slightly less). This painting depicts beautiful desert foliage, including yuccas in bloom. Low-lying shrubs are in the foreground, with purple mountains beyond. This piece of art has a gold-finished wooden frame that measures approximately 15 inches by 13 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 1 pound 11.8 ounces.

The second painting included in this lot measures approximately 8 inches by 10 inches (the visible art area, as framed, is slightly less). This painting depicts a desert wash, with low shrubs in the foreground. Pink and purple mountains are beyond. This piece of art has a wooden frame with a distressed-type finish that measures approximately 13 1/2 inches by 11 1/2 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 1 pound 6.9 ounces. These two paintings would be a wonderful addition to a collection of vintage California fine art.

Identification
At the lower left of the yucca painting, the artist’s name appears, “F. Grayson Sayre.” The desert wash landscape painting is unsigned, but it is attributed to the same artist. Fred Grayson Sayre (1879-1939) is a well-known, listed California artist with listings on AskART and in Edan Hughes’ Artists in California 1786-1940. Per Hughes, Sayre was born in Missouri. He had a brief, formal art training in Nebraska with J. Laurie Wallace. After working in engraving in Chicago, Sayre was an illustrator in Texas before relocating to California due to health reasons. He traveled through the southwest and lived in Arizona, painting desert landscapes. He settled in Glendale, California in 1922. That year, he exhibited in San Francisco. Sayre was a charter member and president of the Painters and Sculptors Club of Los Angeles. He exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Bohemian Club of San Francisco, Wiltshire Art Galleries in Los Angeles, and Glendale Art Association.

Condition
Both paintings look very good. The frames have very light wear. Both paintings are ready to hang and display. The yucca painting was cleaned and it has a few small (invisible) touch-ups. Please review the photos, and ask any questions you may have prior to bidding or buying.

TERMS OF SALE
(the not fun but unfortunately necessary fine print)

1. Sales Tax

Before merchandise is shipped to a California address (or picked up or delivered within California), sales tax will be collected, unless the buyer provides a valid California resale certificate form by mail (or in person, in the case of pick up or delivery). The resale certificate must be properly filled out in accordance with California Board of Equalization regulations. No exceptions.

2. Payments

The buyer must prepay before merchandise is released. Paypal payments over $250 will only be accepted if delivery is to an address with a confirmed status. A signature will be required for delivery if the total Paypal payment for merchandise inside the parcel is greater than $250. Contact the seller in advance of bidding or buying to find out about accepted payment methods for local pick-ups or deliveries. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made.

3. Shipping and Handling

Good packaging is included; double-boxing is not included. Framed art will not be shipped unframed. The seller typically ships on Mondays and Thursdays, unless a holiday or special circumstance precludes it. If payment is via Paypal, the merchandise will be shipped on the seller’s next shipping day after payment clears. The seller is not responsible for the transit time once the merchandise has been accepted by the shipping carrier.

Economy shipping within the U.S. includes delivery to a physical address via an economy shipping method of the seller’s choice. At the discretion of the seller, a faster shipping method may be utilized at no additional cost to the buyer. If the buyer prefers a different shipping method other than that chosen by the seller, or if delivery is to a post office box, additional shipping and handling costs may be required. In the above instances, the seller is happy to provide shipping quotes upon request.

If international shipping is available, this will be indicated on the “Shipping and Payments” tab. International shipping is not free for the buyer; shipping costs are not negotiable. Shipping quotes must be requested prior to all international bidding or buying. The seller will determine the international shipping method(s). Some merchandise may be too large to be shipped to certain countries. Some countries have restrictions or prohibitions on certain classes of merchandise. The seller will only use legal shipping methods. Customs forms will not be falsified.

International buyers, please note: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when the item is picked up; do not confuse them for additional shipping charges. The seller does not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as gifts. U.S. and international government regulations prohibit such behavior.

4. Descriptions, Images, and Other Information

The seller makes every attempt to disclose damage to merchandise and to provide a detailed description and photos. Individual computers may display colors differently. The images and descriptions on this page may not be used without the express permission of the seller. All merchandise is sold “as is where is.” The buyer agrees to indemnify and hold the seller harmless from and against any and all liabilities and expenses, of whatever kind or nature, arising from or related to the use, misuse, resale, or redistribution of the merchandise. A person under the age of 18 must not bid or buy without the consent of their legal guardian. Fraudulent activity will be reported to eBay.

Acceptance of Agreement

By bidding or buying, the buyer acknowledges their understanding and acceptance of the above terms and conditions as a binding agreement.
